How To Volunteer With English Online?

English Online’s e-Volunteers provide assistance that meets newcomers’ specific needs for language learning, career guidance, or settlement. There are two volunteer streams:

1. English e-Tutor

English Online’s Volunteer e-Tutors provide informal EAL/ESL training to English Online adult learners. Tutoring sessions provide English Online learners with ample opportunities for developing and practicing English Language skills in an informal context while growing intercultural awareness and building connections.


Qualifications:

    •  EAL/ESL teaching/tutoring experience and/or a TESL certificate
    •  Experience working with adult newcomers and immigrant community preferred
    •  Demonstrated ability with regards to the computer skills and Internet is extremely beneficial; experience sending and receiving e-mails and attachments is a basic requirement
    •  Ability to be a team player, initiate and maintain relationships as you work with a variety of people and groups
    •  A police record check is mandatory


2. e-Settlement Coach

e-Settlement Coaches provide hands-on assistance and practical information to English Online adult learners. All e-Settlement Coaches will learn about services available for newcomers and discuss various aspects of daily life in Manitoba such as career navigation, renting an apartment, or setting up a doctor’s appointment.

Qualifications:

    •  1+ years of residency in Manitoba (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident status)
    •  Experience working with adult newcomers and immigrant community
    •  Good communication skills
    •  Demonstrated ability with regards to the computer skills and Internet is extremely beneficial
    •  Ability to be a team player, initiate and maintain relationships as you work with a variety of people and groups
    •  A police record check is mandatory

Details: All e-Volunteer Streams

Time: 1 or 2 hours per week
Total time: 10 -20 hours
Duration: 5-12 weeks
Place: Skype/phone/email
Training: provided after an interview and clear police record check
Benefits: Certificate of Recognition after 10-30 successful hours; Certificate of Recognition and a References List entry after successful 40 hours
